The Best Self-Care Hacks when you need an Energy BOOST

A left hand is holding an OliPop soda Cherry Vanilla flavored drink, and in the right hand a bouquet of flowers wrapped in plastic. The drink has a picture of a cherry on it, and it says the word "Olipop" on top of it. The text that appears on the drink says "Olipop Cherry Vanilla Sparkling Tonic."

Self-care is just that- for yourself. It’s neither selfish nor selfless. It’s all about spending time to take care of you.

When everything feels overwhelming, our minds tend to jump to the negative. Sometimes we forget to remind ourselves of all the good things in life, and how much worse things could be.

We can forget to focus on what truly matters, our family, friends, and close loved ones. I often forget the importance of this as well. I’m an avid planner, so I’m always planning almost everything.

Sometimes I forget to step back and care for myself. Those are the moments when I lay in bed for a couple of days because I didn’t take the time to slow down. I don’t like not doing anything, but that is some of the best rest I’ve ever had.

Each year, I try to slow down a little more than the prior year. As I have gotten older, I realize the importance of caring for myself.

So, it’s good to take your time. Move at your own pace.

Relax and put your worries at ease. We have put together 10 self-care hacks to relieve your mind and release tension when you are not feeling it.

Self-care hacks to boost your energy.

Throw on a good face mask.

You can easily toss on a face mask for 10 to 20 minutes. Face masks can nourish, hydrate, and revitalize the skin. A good face mask can complement and enhance a good skincare routine.

Make sure you read the label and look for products that are fragrance-free, free of parabens and dyes, and that are hypoallergenic.

Take a soak.

Try taking a soak. A calming bath can soothe and ease the mind and body. Now’s the time to add your favorite ingredients. You can use Epsom salts to reduce inflammation, bubble bath, and essential oils, like lavender or chamomile oil. My favorite essential oil is eucalyptus oil.

A strong minty smell will open your airways and help you breathe better, especially if you’re sick. It also helps to relieve any soreness, aches, or pains. Don’t forget to add the oats to combat and soothe inflammation of skin conditions and sensitive skin.

Before using essential oils:

  • Do not use essential oils if you have any broken skin, irritated or inflamed skin, or scratches to the skin.
  • Ensure you do a patch test for essential oils to guarantee no potential allergic reaction.
  • Always dilute oils with a carrier oil before adding to your bath water because of their potency.

Stretch.

Start moving with a 5–10-minute stretch to remove tension and boost alignment.

Read some poetry.

Reading poetry has a positive effect on your mind and physical being. Not only does it help you understand more of yourself, but it also helps build your ability to understand others as well.

After all, there are so many different types of poetry. Find poetry that resonates with your style, and take a moment to read and reflect on it.

Get outdoors.

Spend some time outdoors. Getting outdoors can help you get more Vitamin D, lessen anxiety, and make you feel better. Vitamin D aids a healthy immune system and helps keep your muscles and brain cells working properly.

Nothing is better than going for a nice, long walk. Every time I do this, I feel better. I love walking in the evening when the sun is setting and it’s not dark yet.

Everything looks different, and it almost glows. Specifically, in the spring and summer, everything in nature and wildlife is coming into season or starting to bloom.

In the same way, being near water or green space naturally boosts your body and mind.

Plant something.

A green thumb is a skill worth learning. It can lead to improved health by relieving stress. As a result, it enables exercise from moving around, including increased Vitamin D levels, which are essential for your bones. Try planting something or growing your food.

Give time to others.

When you don’t feel good, one of the best ways to combat that is to help others. Asking others in your community if they need help with anything, assisting your friends and family with projects, or donating your time to uplifting causes are all ways you can serve others.

Even checking in on others to see how they’re doing can lighten your mood. Keep things light and keep things positive.

Plan out something.

Plan to do something that you’ve been wanting to. Whether you plan a movie trip, to spend time with your friends, plan a getaway, or to take yourself out to dinner.

Do something that you are looking forward to. Plan it, write it down, and schedule it on the calendar. This will be something that inspires you and keeps you anticipating and excited.

Be quiet.

Silence all your notifications, if possible, and unplug for the rest of the day.

At this time, focus on rest. Give yourself time to clear your mind and unwind from your day.

Create moments to encourage quiet time and rest.

Make time to journal.

This way, you get your thoughts down on paper. Take 5-10 minutes and write what’s on your mind. You can also follow guided journals or use acronyms to write out your journal prompts.

Granted, it doesn’t have to be long. Remember, journaling is just a reminder of where you’ve been in the past and a push when needed to keep moving forward.

Taking care of yourself and your health is important during stressful situations and good times. Set aside time in your schedule to make room for what’s important- taking care of yourself.

With these self-care tips, lower your stress and experience increased peace. Take a few hours a week to focus your attention on self-care. Apply these self-care hacks to your routine and see an increase in your overall mental and physical well-being.
