Nearly 80% of American households will engage in some spring cleaning this year. This is the time of year when you can focus on those areas that have been long forgotten.

Spring cleaning is an important practice to implement because it helps us focus on areas and spaces that tend to be overlooked daily. But that’s not all spring cleaning is. It’s not just about getting rid of old things and refreshing for the season. You can also personally spring clean your life.

What does this mean? Spring cleaning your life is taking inventory of where you are currently. Adjusting, making changes, arrangements, and plans to gain more clarity on where you want to be. If you are at the point where you are ready for a change and feel like something needs to change, then it’s time to spring clean your life for a fresh start.

Here are 9 hacks to spring clean your life and tidy up your space.

Clean up YOUR digital space.

Is your phone always buzzing with emails? If yes, then we share the same problem. Many emails I’ve never even subscribed to in the first place, but that’s another story. Set aside time each day to unsubscribe from all those emails taking up your storage. Listen, extra storage is not free, and what’s the purpose of paying for it if you don’t have to?

Browse your texts and delete messages, files, and documents you don’t need. Save the important things before removing them. Upload them to a cloud service or save them on a hard drive before you press delete.

Also, take the time to scan all your apps and remove the ones you don’t use.

PERSONAL Finances.

Spring clean your finances and create a financial plan for your future. Analyze your financials and get an overview of what you have been doing for the past few months, whether or not they have been successes or failures. Cut out all the unnecessary expenses and extra spending, then determine what to clip and keep.

Make it a priority to start or keep up with your budget. Budgeting is immensely valuable. It helps you know where your money is going and allows you to create a plan to manage it. When you make a plan for your finances, you set yourself up for success in the future.

Stay consistent with your monthly budget and evaluate your financial state every month or quarter.

PERSONAL Goals.

Spring clean your goals. Observe where you are and plan where you want to be. Give yourself some time and space to think. Don’t get too bogged down and start to overthink.

List everything you want to do over the next 6 months. Then choose two to four goals, that’s one to two goals per three months, for the next 6 months. Ask, “Are you currently doing things to help you achieve the goals you decided for the next 6 months?” If not, adjust and change to fit the goals you set for yourself, and make a plan on how you will achieve each goal.

Mind.

Create an atmosphere where you can clean and clear your mind. Remove yourself from unnecessary situations, unstable environments, and contentious people. The most important thing here is to put yourself in an optimistic headspace. Everything you say, you believe in your heart, and meditate in your mind before it ever comes out of your mouth, so keep your mind clean, positive, and clear.

Physical space.

Of course, we can’t forget this. Having a clean space can help reduce stress and clear the mind. When your space is cluttered, it creates chaos. Plus, it’s harder for you to focus. Clutter can disrupt the quality of your space, diminishing its functionality and causing mental stress.

Professional goals.

If you’re in the professional space, it’s time to refresh your profile. Update your resume, online job profiles, or anything connected to your professional life. Try to do this at least every 3 to 6 months, to keep it updated. Keep a notepad of everything that has happened, plus all the things you need to change. This way, when it’s time to update your profile and information, it will be easy.

relationships.

There’s nothing wrong with reassessing your relationships with others. If your relationships with others are draining, then begin questioning why. Hold those conversations with others, set boundaries for yourself, and take it from there. Noting who’s pouring into you and who is zapping the life out of you.

Schedule.

Look at your schedule and determine your priorities. What can you add to the calendar, and what can you take away? Are there any important dates for stuff you can’t miss?

Include a cut-off time in your schedule. This is where you shut everything down and spend that time resting and on things that matter to you.

Wardrobe.

In the past, when I went shopping, I would pick up pieces that I liked, pieces that looked good on me. Then I would come home and put the pieces together with something else in my wardrobe, which always clashed. It never worked because everything was all over the place.

I had so many different pieces, some casual, some whimsical, some classy, some avant-garde, you name it, and it was just too much. After years of wasting money trying to find the right clothes and having to give the rest away, I finally asked myself, What is my style? So, let that be your first question: What is your style?

What do you really like? Do you prefer specific colors, materials, or looks? Jot down all of this. Then go through your closet, observing each piece one by one. Ask yourself, “Is this me?” or “Is this something I can truly see myself wearing?”

If not, it may be time to let those pieces go. Clear out your wardrobe confidently and keep the things that fit your style and personality.

Think you need a refresh? Spring cleaning doesn’t only involve cleaning your space. Try spring cleaning your life. Spring clean your life to bring peace and clarity to the chaotic parts. Fostering a greater sense of purpose, pointing you in the right direction, and keeping you on track. As the warmer months approach and we leave the colder months behind, head into the new season with a bold start and spring clean your life.
