If you follow me on Instagram then you know the Mr. and I recently spent a weekend in D.C. We had a blast! I was a little worried that it might be too short of a trip but it turned out to be just want we needed. It’s always so nice to get away for a weekend.
We arrived Friday night around 8pm, checked into the hotel and then decided to go walk for a sweet ending. Since it was close to 9pm, we ended up at Shake Shack for a concrete. I had the coffee and doughnuts flavor and it was just perfect. It was a beautiful evening so it was great to stretch our legs after the flight.
Since we only had one full day in D.C. we decided to enjoy the Smithsonians. We went to the American History Museum first then walked to lunch at Good Stuff Eatery over by the Capital. I am a sucker for a good burger. I ordered the Michelle Melt and the Mr. opted for the turkey burger. Both turkey burgers were incredible and the fries put the whole meal over the top.
After a tasty lunch it was off to the Botanic Garden and more Museums. We walked through the American Indian Museum for a bit then enjoyed the Natural History Museum. The Natural History Museum is by far my favorite, but it was so late in the day when we arrived that it was packed full. We walked through some of the exhibits then decided to head back to the hotel for a little break before dinner. It was so hot and our legs were tired.
We took a little nap and then headed to Chef Geoff’s for dinner. It was delicious! I ordered a kale salad, wild mushroom ravioli and a spa water cocktail. The Mr. and I ordered a plate of cinnamon doughnuts to go. Yum! We were so spent that it wasn’t long before we were out.
Since we had to leave Sunday we got up earlier than normal and went for a run around the memorials. It was a great day for a run and the weather was perfect. We did an easy 3 miles and stopped whenever we wanted to take pictures. I enjoyed running with the Mr. and we had so much fun!
After our 3 mile run we decided to walk to Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken for breakfast. I had a tasty fried chicken “doughnut” sandwich and the Mr. ordered a couple doughnuts. That chicken sandwich was perfect! None of it was greasy and the doughnut was a tad sweet and the chicken a tad spicy.
The trip basically ends at the doughnut sandwich. We showered, packed up, took an Uber to the airport and then came home. Chloe Mae was happy to be picked up from her doggie daycare and we were happy to be home with her. I loved doing D.C. as a kid, but enjoyed it more as an adult. I can’t wait to go back!
