I can’t believe it’s finally here! If you are reading this I am on my way to Portland, Oregon for a beautiful racecation with my sweetie. The race isn’t until Sunday, but we have a lot of adventures planned between now and then. I’ve been Thinking Out Loud a lot lately about my goals for this race. It’s been challenging for me to determine what I want from this race.
My runner ramblings go a little like this…
While this isn’t necessarily my goal half marathon for the year, I’ve still been busting my hump training.
I want to PR the heck out of this race, BUT I need to be realistic with myself. Am I really in PR shape? Are the logistics of this race really going to set me up for a PR?
Should I really be trying to PR this race? What if I hurt myself when I should be getting stronger for my *big* marathons on the calendar (Chicago + NYC)? Am I losing sight of my bigger unspoken goal for Chicago?
Yeah, that’s what has been plaguing my days lately. Since I’m already on the plane I guess now is as good a time as any to iron out my goals and see what happens.
Goal A: PR – sub 2:31
While I’m not sure if it’s possible, anything can happen on race day. I had a big surprise last month at Tinker Bell Half Marathon so maybe a PR could happen this weekend. Either way I think I’m gonna go for it.
Goal B: 2:38
Based on my current training I think this is a realistic goal. This isn’t quite close to my goal pace for other races this summer, but this should be doable for where I am now.
Goal C: 2:45
This means it’s not my day. I will be happy to finish with a smile on my face!
I am SO excited to run the Vancouver USA half marathon and know that no matter what I will have the best time. This race is followed by enter into Summer Brewfest, so that’s enough to make anyone look forward to the finish. #beerme
