Since I committed to running the Dopey Challenge at Walt Disney World Marathon weekend months ago I decided to get started on the training. While the training runs won’t be a full simulation on how the marathon weekend will go, they will still help.
I always tend to feel more confident in a race if I’ve done something similar in a training run. I have it filed away in my brain that I can do it.
Not familiar with the Dopey Challenge at WDW? You run the 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon on back to back mornings. It’s a total of 4 races, a lot of miles and 6 medals. You can read more about my initial registration excitement here!
I know I will be exhausted by the end of the challenge, but that’s part of the fun. The Mr. will be running the 5k and 10k with me which is an added bonus. He hasn’t ran a runDisney race with me since last year’s Wine & Dine “half” marathon.
WDW Dopey Challenge is about less than two months away, but let’s not forget that Thanksgiving and Christmas fall during that time too. Eek! Lol.
Back to back long runs will help me get there. They will help simulate running on tired legs and volume of mileage over a given time frame. I know that all the work I’ve put in over the last year in preparation for Chicago and NYC have helped so I’m basically just piggy-backing off that.
Right now I don’t have a time goal in mind for the Dopey experience, but that will probably change. I’m sure I will have specific goals for each race, but time may not be a factor in all of them.
I hope to check in over the next couple months with updates on the specific training for this race. Checking in with you all always help me stay accountable.
