It’s bittersweet to know I won’t be toeing the line this weekend at the Chicago Marathon. This race means so much to me, but I honestly needed a break from marathon training this year. The Chicago Marathon was my first big city race and both times I ran it for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Good luck to all you runners taking the start line this weekend. Cherish all the miles then eat all the pizza afterwards. I can’t wait to see how everyone’s race goes and live through all of your pictures!
This was my 2nd marathon and it was truly the race of a lifetime. I soaked in every minute of this race and reveled in the whole thing. The crowds, the city, the energy, the other runners, running for charity – the whole thing was more incredible than I could have imagined. This marathon experience is the one I want everyone to experience for themselves. Marathons change you!
Last year’s race was different. I set a high goal for myself and pushed myself so hard. I had a wonderful time running the marathon, but was still disappointed to not have the race experience I spent all summer dreaming about. Even though it wasn’t the race I wanted I am still proud that this was a PR for me!
Whether you are running the marathon as a first timer or a veteran I hope this race is everything you want it to be. Both times I’ve ran it it’s given me so much. So many memories, so many small victories, some left downs, but no regrets.
Good luck Chicago Marathon runners!
