Happy Friday! Chances are if you are training for a fall marathon, your training is already in full swing, but if you are looking for another race to add then you’ve came to the right place. If you are a regular around here then you know I am all about a great racecation and love traveling to unique destinations for a race weekend.
I’ve compiled a short list of the places I would love to be running if I wasn’t already running Chicago and NYC. There is no better way to welcome fall than with a marathon. Here are a couple races that I would love to check out.
Mount Desert Island Marathon – Bar Harbor, Maine.
If my calendar wasn’t so full, this would be the race I would be adding. I have never been to Maine and I can’t even imagine how gorgeous it would be in the fall. The course includes mountain views, small villages and water views. I love how quaint this race seems because so much of the course is all about Maine’s natural beauty.
Wineglass Marathon – Corning, New York.
I have heard so many amazing things about this race from so many people. The field is about 3,000 runners and is a point to point race. The structure for the entry fee is unique too depending on when you register. The course is scenic and runs through some of the Finger Lakes.
Richmond Marathon – Richmond, Virginia.
Everyone always mentions that this race feels like you are running your hometown. Those are always my favorite sort of experiences. Since this is a Saturday race it makes it ideal for a quick weekend trip. The swag for this race is crazy good too and there is plenty of free food and drinks post race which is always a plus.
Rock n Roll Las Vegas – Las Vegas, Nevada.
Vegas is a place from another world and the Strip is really something to see. I love the atmosphere of Vegas because the food is great, you can walk everywhere and the shows are so fun. While I don’t know that I would want to run the full marathon, I think the half or shorter distances like the 5k or 10k would be a blast. Running the Strip at night is absolutely on my list!
Berlin Marathon – Berlin, Germany.
This race is most certainly on my list for way too many reasons. I think running this marathon would be an incredible experience. Not only is this race the second largest marathon in the world, but naturally it’s part of the six Marathon Majors too. The history of a city like Berlin will be tough to beat. Maybe next year I will throw my name in the lottery.
Whether you’re running for a shiny new PR or just for fun there are so many places that need to be explored. I love ringing in a new season with a race and fall racing is always my favorite. The leaves are changing, the temps are cooler and the world seems to slow down for just a bit from the chaos of summer fun. Fall is the best time to enjoy being a marathoner.
