I know I’m a little late with this review, but I love this watch so I thought I’d share. The Garmin Forerunner 235 isn’t a new model to the marketplace, but it’s still fairly new to me. There are a lot of reviews on this watch on the web, so I will keep this short and sweet.
Disclaimer: I purchased this watch with my own money and was not compensated for this review. As usual all opinions are my own.
After so much research I decided to purchase this model of Garmin. It took me a long time to decide on a model, but after reviewing all the specs I decided this was the best watch to suit my needs.
I’ve been using MapMyRun for as long as I can remember, but since I’ve been doing all this research on heart rate training I decided it was time to invest in a better watch. My sweet pitbull, Chloe Mae chewed up my Polar heart rate watch months ago and I like the Beets BLU monitor too, but I really wanted one place to view and store all my data.
I love that this watch for so many reasons, but here are just a few.
- Large Face – the face on this thing is ridiculous. I love that it’s so big and easy to read when I am in motion.
- Wrist Based Heart Rate – I really enjoy not having to wear a chest strap. I haven’t had much trouble with getting it to find my heart rate quickly. Usually it’s because I have it too close to my wrist bone. It was also really easy to add in my preferred method for determining heart rate zones through the Garmin Connect App/Website.
- Lap Button – I didn’t think I would use this function, but it’s been really helpful. I don’t spend a lot of time on the track, so I’ve found other ways to use it. I really like using it for speed work or hill work. A lot of times I will warm up/cool down for less than a mile so this helps me get a better read on my split times. I like this on hill repeats too for the same reason.
- Bluetooth – This is another feature that I didn’t think I would really use, but I love it. Of course I love that it wirelessly syncs with the Garmin Connect app on my phone, but I love that I can see my new text messages on the screen too. It’s great when I’m racing or on a long run and am expecting a text from the Mr. I don’t have to worry about missing it, because I can read it directly from my watch screen.
This watch is a little on the pricey side compared to some of Garmin’s other products, but I run nearly every day so for me it was the perfect investment. I can’t remember what running was like before this watch!
