We had an early flight out of ATL and arrived in Portland around 10am local time. The Mr. and I picked up our rental car and headed to Screen Door for breakfast. Breakfast/brunch is one of my favorite meals and we both really like eating that meal in a new city.
Naturally I ordered the Chicken and Waffles and the Mr. ordered the Bacon Praline Waffle. Let me just tell you that as a Southerner fried chicken is basically its own food group and Screen Door delivered. The chicken wasn’t greasy at all, was perfectly spicy and was a match made in heaven with this sweet potato waffle.
After a borderline carbohydrate coma, we headed over to Forest Park for some hiking. It was so fun. Forest Park is in the heart of downtown Portland, but you would never know it. Not only is it a huge area, but everything is unbelievably green. I have never seen so much moss in my life.
We hiked for about an 1 hour and a half or so then decided to check out the Japanese Garden.
It was beautiful and everything was incredibly relaxing despite there being quite a few people there.
We made our way around the park then headed to the International Rose Test Garden. The smell was intoxicating and pictures don’t do it justice.
There were species I had never even heard of or seen anywhere else. It was truly magical and the view from the garden was just stunning.
After a solid day of adventuring we headed back to our hotel.
Have you ever been to a place like the rose garden?
Are you a chicken and waffles fan?
