Even though it’s not quite 2016 I thought I would share a couple things that are on the horizon for me. Last week I was really honest about my thoughts and feelings regarding the marathon distance. You can read all about it here. I basically made a new commitment to run some half marathons and shelve the marathon distance for a while. I have decided that I want to pour myself into the half marathon for a while so I can go into fall marathon season well rested and healthier.
I also know focusing on the half marathon will allow me to work hardly on cross training and overall body fitness. My body is conditioned so the half marathon will not be as much of a challenge as the marathon. I hope to shave some time off my current half PR, but ultimately gain body strength and a renewed sense of purpose. Here are some things I have on the horizon that I’m pretty excited about.
Miami Half Marathon – January 24th. I signed up for this race long before I even ran the Chicago Marathon and I’m pumped that it’s almost here. The Mr. has never been to Miami, but one of his close friends just moved there from Tampa. This was basically my excuse to talk him into the race. I get to run a race I’ve wanted to run even before I was a runner and we get to see his friends. I’ve only been to Miami once and it was over the weekend of this race. I watched all the runners in awe not even aware that years later I would start running or be running this race. The race course features lots of water views and the weather should be perfect. I can’t wait!
Disney Princess Marathon Weekend – February 19th-21st. I am most excited for this race because my mom, sister and I will be doing the Glass Slipper Challenge together. We will be running the 10k on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday. This is a girls only trip and we are all really excited! I’ve already made all of our dinner reservations and we are even wearing matching outfits for the races and days we spend at the parks. Disneyworld is pure magic and the best of my childhood so I am beyond thrilled to spend it with my fam.
RRCA Certificate Course – April 30th. I’ve wanted to do this for some time, so when dates opened I signed up immediately. I don’t know if I will be taking athletes or if I just want the knowledge, but I’m ready to learn about everything related to running and maximizing performance. Some of you ask my questions and I can only speak from experience. I think it will be neat to be able to speak from a place of education and not just experience.
I will be sharing my personal and running goals for the New Year next week so stay tuned for that bit too. I’m really excited to share some things with ya’ll!
What’s on your horizon for 2016 so far?
