Another week has came and gone! Whoa! The month of March is already flying by, which means it’s getting closer to race weekend. Last week was interesting to say the least. I pushed myself when I didn’t want to and am still working through my hip and right leg muscle issues. Last week was a success despite the actual mileage or the pace times. It seems weird to say that, but I am actually quite proud of the work I put in last week. It was challenging, but I felt strong despite the struggle to get my body back up to speed.
For most of the year I have been struggling to get through my training runs and train consistently due to injury even though I have “raced” a marathon, two half marathons and 10k. I used these races more as training runs, but have been less than pleased with my performance. Week after week I have seen small improvements, but last week I felt like I actually turned the corner.
This week’s theme was consistency and I feel like I hit that. You might recall in my goals for this month that I want to do so many specific workouts in this month. So far so good. I also got accepted to run the TCS NYC Marathon last Tuesday through the lottery! (Squeals)
Things were thrown off a bit because we traveled to New Orleans this past weekend so I had to move my “long run” to Friday night instead of Saturday morning. My legs were so tired and I was short on time since we had dinner plans with friends, but I still got through 5 miles even though I should have ran 8. I also bought new shoes at the end of last week. You might have seen them on my Instagram if you follow me. The jury is still out, but so far I like the stability that they provide. They also seem to be aiding in correcting my gait for the better too. More on the shoes in another post 🙂
Monday: REST + light yoga + long dog walk
Tuesday: Barre3 DVD
Wednesday: 3.38 tempo miles (this run was a mess, but oh well) + dog walk + 50 glute bridges & clamshells
Thursday: 3 easy hilly miles + Tone It Up Kettle Booty Workout (1 set) <– this kicked my booty
Friday: 5 super duper slow miles in new shoes
Saturday: REST + lots of walking around New Orleans
Sunday: 3 easy miles around New Orleans with the Mr.
Total: 14.38 miles
I am working to safely increase my mileage and work on getting stronger. Even though I have a couple races on the horizon I know my body and I still have time to get race ready. I might not be in PR shape, but the likelihood of snatching a PR in Knoxville was never a real possibility in my mind given the course.
I am looking forward to seeing how my body handles all the strength work over the long haul, but so far I feel stronger and more powerful in my stride. Happy running!
How is your spring training coming along?
Have you had to overcome injury in the past?
