Happy Friday Five ya’ll! I am on my way to sunny Orlando, Florida today for Disney’s Princess Half Marathon weekend. Be sure to follow me on Instagram for
daily hourly updates from Walt Disney World! I will be spending the weekend with my mom and sister (squeals).
The Mr. and I travel regularly and are constantly on the go. We are usually traveling somewhere every 3-4 weeks. Sometimes we drive, but we usually tend to spend a lot of time in the airport. This week’s Friday Five is dedicated to the FIVE must have items that I never fly without.
The Perfect Carry On Bag. In the last eight months or so I purchased my first Vera Bradley duffle and I am officially in love. I own the large duffle and have found that it is the perfect size for a 4-5 day trip. It’s large enough to hold all my stuff, but not so big that I pack extra items. The shape makes it really easy to pack shoes in the bottom and clothes on the top. I love that it’s soft sided because it expands and the size is still easy for me to manage. The large duffle is a Southwest Airlines approved carry on size, but is much larger than smaller rolling suitcases I have seen so it’s all I need for a trip.
Water Bottle. While you can’t carry liquids through the security checkpoint at the airport you can carry an empty bottle for water later. I always have a water bottle with me and most airports have a fountain or a filling station. This saves you money at the airport, but also helps you stay hydrated while you travel. Flying can wear you out and dehydrate you quickly, so I find this super important for race weekends. I also like having a tube of Nuun handy so I can keep my electrolytes in check especially when changing climates. Humidity and elevation can be a killer when your body is trying to adjust.
Lipstick. You can call me vane if you want, but I need a couple lipstick choices in my purse at all times. Traveling in a car or plane usually makes for a really long day. I’ve found that by slapping on a little lippy I feel instantly refreshed and more put together. This tip is especially my go to when I travel to the West coast because of the time change or fly really early in the morning. You arrive at your destination and still have a whole day’s worth of activities. Right now I am loving this Too Faced lipstick in Berry Naughty.
Comfortable Shoes. I don’t go anywhere without my Nikes or Birkenstocks. Comfortable shoes are a must because airports usually mean lots of walking, but also because I don’t want to have to change my shoes when I get to my destination. I want to walk off the plane and be ready for adventure. Right now I can’t get enough of these Nikes because I can wear them with nearly anything and they never hurt my feet.
Entertainment. Often times I try to work on blog content or brainstorm during long travel sessions, but sometimes I just want to relax during shorter flights. I love books, but unless we are going on a beach vacation they often take up too much space in my bag. I prefer to save magazines I receive in the mail until my flight so I have something to look forward to. I also really enjoy listening to podcasts and audio books during this time too. Currently I’m loving true crime podcasts and the Jillian Michaels show. It’s a great way to pass the time, but also allows me to multitask so I can use my time wisely.
I hope these tips help you better enjoy your next flight. Happy travels!
