Happy happy happy Friday everyone! Today’s Friday Five is all about my holiday vacation. In fact we leave tomorrow! I always associate cold weather with the Christmas holiday, but this year the Mr. and I will be spending an entire week in the Caribbean with my parents and sister. We booked this trip in January when we noticed things were starting to sell out so quickly. Last year, we spent the week of Christmas in fabulous Las Vegas. Read all about that trip here.
We fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico tomorrow then board our cruise ship on Sunday. We will be gone on a seven day cruise and will be embarking on all sorts of adventures. My family and I have done two other Caribbean cruises, but this will be the Mr.’s first cruise. I can’t wait to adventure, eats lots of delicious food and relax on the beach or poolside. We will be zip lining, enjoying the beach, kayaking, snorkeling and hiking. It was so hard to pack for this trip because all of my summer things have been packed and stored away for months. It was nice to dust off some of my favorite beach vacation staples so I thought I would share with you what I’m packing.
CHACOS. These are adventure shoes! They are ugly and weird looking, but comfortable. I just bought these and broke them in doing some Christmas baking last week, but I’m anxious to try them out on our vacation. We were all advised to bring water shoes along for our kayaking/hiking adventure so I ordered a red pair for me and a black pair for the Mr. I know we will get good use out of them this trip and since they are out of season I snagged them on Amazon for about half the suggested retail price. Score!
SUNSCREEN. I don’t want to be miserable and come back looking like a lobster in the middle of winter so I’ve got a couple tubes of this stuff packed. I’ve tried a lot of brands, but I really enjoy the Aveeno sunscreen because it’s gentle, effective and doesn’t stink or feel greasy like traditional sunscreen. I use the baby version for my face when I run and love it. It doesn’t burn your eyes when you sweat.
BIG HAT. What kind of Southern gal would I be if I wasn’t taking a huge hat to cover my shoulders?! I am packing a big sun hat and also a smaller straw fedora. Hats keep my shoulders and the part of my hair from burning and hide messy beach hair.
RUNNING SHOES. Running during a vacation is a must. Not only am I still marathon training for the Disneyworld Marathon in January, but running will be a great way to start the day on the cruise ship. We will have less of a schedule on the two days we are just cruising between the ports and I will also be able to run in San Juan Sunday morning before we board the ship. Right now I’m loving the Asics Cumulus 16!
GO PRO. I plan on filming this trip and creating a film featuring the highlights of our holiday. I love my Go Pro because it’s so tiny I hardly notice it. It doesn’t weigh very much and mounts just about anywhere. I am packing my pink selfie stick and wrist mount so I can get some killer shots of our zip lining and kayaking excursions. It’s so fun watching the film after you’re back home from a trip. It lets you really relive the whole thing.
