Hi ya’ll! Over the coming weeks and months I will be sharing my training schedule and progress for the Edinburgh Marathon. I always enjoy reading about what others are doing to prepare for a goal race and I’ve found that by sharing my training plan it helps me stay accountable.
Even though the race isn’t until the end of May, my body responds best to a gradual mileage build and I have a couple half marathons between now and then. I took a little break after the Dopey Challenge and am now back to a more solid schedule.
I will share more about my preparation strategy (as a type A personality I respond very well to this) in another post so stay tuned for that. I think it’s important to evaluate what works for you and what doesn’t. My memory is also kinda patchy so I need things written down.
Here’s what last week looked like for me:
Day 8 of 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene
Quick Lower Body Workout – Glute Bridges, Clamshells, Hip Ups on a Decline & Kickbacks (I did all of these with a medium weight resistance band)
Day 9 of 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene
Day 10 of 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene
2.5 fartlek miles on the treadmill – There wasn’t anything special about this run, but I was really working hard. It felt good.
Short dog walk
Day 11 of 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene
Day 12 of 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene
Started feeling a head cold coming on 🙁
Day 13 of 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene
I wanted a long run, but was still feeling under the weather so I rested.
Day 14 of 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene
2 hour run on the treadmill (10 ish miles?) + 20 minute squat barbell session (standard, sumo, front and narrow squats @ 30lbs) + 20 minutes of easy spinning to stretch
Total Miles: 12.5 miles
This week was weird. I felt like I was getting sick for a couple days so I took it easy on the miles and focused on resting. Also, all these consecutive days of yoga is kicking my butt. I’ve been sore in areas I didn’t even know I had muscles and fatigued in a way that’s new to me. I’m really enjoying it though. I’m looking forward to getting back to solid mileage this week!
Are you currently training for anything?
Any Spring race plans?
