Hey ya’ll! We had a great first full day in Chicago. Since our breakfast reservations weren’t until 9:30am we were able to sleep in and get some good rest. Prepping for this trip has really wore me down so it was amazing being able to get over 7 hours of sleep.
We started our day with an Uber ride to Little Goat Diner. It was only about 1.4 miles from our hotel, but I wanted to save my legs. After a quick ride we were at the diner for the best breakfast. Check out this beautiful spread.
I had the bull’s eye French toast. It was covered in crispy chicken, BBQ maple syrup and strawberries. The Mr. opted for the fat Elvis waffle. It was a waffle covered in bacon maple syrup, banana slices and peanut butter butter.
After breakfast we headed to the race expo at the McCormick Place Convention Center in order to prevent a serious carb coma. Of course I can’t go anywhere without about a zillion pictures.
I got some fun stuff at the expo. As we were on our way out the crowds were really starting to build so I was thankful we got there early enough to enjoy everything before the craziness began. I told myself that we weren’t going to walk all over the expo and we did a great balance of checking stuff out without doing too much.
I picked up a cut red coffee mug, tumbler, magnet for my car and some huma gels. I love huma gels because they are easier on my stomach than some other gels I have tried. I had a lot of chocolate ones at home, but wanted to pick up a couple mocha ones before the race. I picked up a lemonade one too just for fun. They all have caffeine, thank heavens!
The race shirt is so cute! I really like the black logo on the red shirt. It will definitely add something new to my race shirt collection. I also went by the Asics tent and picked up a free pace band. It was fun! They customized it based on my goal finish time and wanting to start the first half slower.
After the expo we came back to the hotel and dropped off our stuff. Since we wanted to get out of the hotel room, but not walk around too much we headed to see a movie. We walked to the movie theater since it was a little less than a mile away.
We ended up seeing The Martian with Matt Damon and loved it. I’m a sucker for a space movie and this one was a great choice. I needed a snack so we shared some red ropes and peanut m & ms.
After the movie, you guessed it. I was a little hungry again. This is what I get for not eating lunch. We decided to stop at Garretts Popcorn for a mixed bag (cheese corn and caramel corn). We shared a little popcorn then headed back to the hotel for a little rest before dinner.
After a little rest we went to dinner at Rosebud Prime. We don’t do steakhouse style restaurants in Atlanta so it was fun to check out a steakhouse. Rosebud was so good to us. The atmosphere was wonderful, the lighting was romantic and there was even a gentleman that played the piano while we ate. I was thankful that it wasn’t too far from the hotel too. Sorry for the dark pictures, the lighting was dim.
The Mr. ordered a petite filet with green beans almandine and mashed potatoes. I had the brick chicken with a loaded baked potato. We shared a slice of the key lime pie. Like most steakhouses the portions were huge. I ate some of the chicken and gave some to the Mr., but we still had so much left over.
Before I even started eating I cut the chicken in half and moved it to one side of my plate. The Mr. had a lot of leftover green beans so we had that and half the chicken boxed up. We took that to a homeless man on our way back to the hotel. When we travel we really feel like its important to give leftovers to the homeless. Its difficult to make use of the leftovers when we are staying in a hotel and I hate wasting something that someone would enjoy.
My parents and sister (runtourage) are flying in today and I can’t wait for them to get here! They surprised me during my birthday dinner back in August and told me they were coming to celebrate this marathon milestone with me. I am so thankful for the support of my family and husband.
